Is it illegal to have alcohol in your car? and will mechanics check?

i have an unopened bottle of rum in my trunk i am legal drinking age. I broke down and had to leave my car at the shop. I have nothing else in the car that would be illegal, im not sure if the alcohol is. also are the mechanics going to search my car?
