Is it illegal to buy/use feeder fish in the UK?

I've just got some turtles and I'm just wondering if the use and sale of feeder fish is illegal because I haven't seen any on display in any store.

I am pretty sure it's not ileagle but shops don't sell fish as feeders u just have to buyy like common goldfish or guppies. You would be better buying guppies off dealers.

why would it be illegal to feed your fish?

i wouldn't recommend feeder fish because because they really don't have any nutritional value for your fish.

I'm not sure on the exact legality, but I think stores do have restrictions when it comes to selling any live animal for food purposes, you don't see live mice or rats being sold for food either. BUT you do see live insects such as wingless fruit flies or crickets (these options are actually better for many large predatory animals than feeder fish).

There's also the issue that buying feeder fish from a store usually means you're buying poorly bred and sickly fish that are more likely to pass on parasites to whatever you're feeding it to than have any kind of nutritional value!

You're best breeding your own - FYI Goldfish should NEVER be used as feeder fish. Read this:
