i'm in medical school and is having a bit of a problem with a teacher. i am a B average student who wasn't doing to well in one of my classes. I asked my teacher for extra help and was denied. I then found out that although my average for the class was a 68, he failed me. He later, he discussed my issue and grades with my class mates. Other incidents occurred were i was treated unfairly and harassed and i am planning to get a lawyer, but wanted to know...is there a law for a teacher-student confidentiality? is it illegal in anyway for him to have discussed my files with my classmates?

Go to the Dean of Students and discuss the matter with him/her to find out the appropriate actions to take. I don't think it is illegal, but it could be considered a matter of ethics. I don't think the teacher is supposed to be discussing your grades with anyone other than administrators, yourself and possibly other teachers. I could be wrong, but it is worth a shot.

Go to the Dean and see what you need to do in order to avoid this teacher and re-take the class with another professor if there is one available that teaches the same subject.
