Is it harder to drive an SUV than a regular car?

So I want to learn to drive and my boyfriend has an SUV and he says that I can practice with it. I'm actually very scared to use his SUV being that it's large and if you tap the gas it takes off. I would prefer to learn in a smaller car. My friends are telling me its better to learn in a large car. What is your opinion on this and is it harder to drive an SUV than a regular car? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Don't be intimidated. Learning in a larger car is probably a good idea because you get a feel for the size of the car quickly. In an SUV you cannot see the area directly around the car so you need to consciously be aware of that blind zone when maneuvering in tight spaces. In a normal car you can learn the same skills, but you won't be paying as close of attention to the details. Besides, If you can drive a behemoth, which you can, you can drive anything!
