...basics out of the way? I am a senior in a new mexico high school and am trying to figure out what to do as far as college. I plan to get a bachelors degree in agricultural business & economics at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in a small town called Goodwell, OK. I want to attend the university but at the same time, I was wanting to experience living in a city for a while plus I don't want to be so far away from home just yet. I was wondering if it is a good idea to attend a community college (Central New Mexico Community College) in Albuquerque(2.5 hours away from home) to get my basics out of the way or go straight to OPSU (8 hours away from home). If I go to CNM, I'll have to get an apartment and will be on my own practically but in OK, I'll be living on campus. Is it good to go to a community college away from home or just go to a university?

I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to go to a CC away from home. Almost all CCs are commuter schools. This means there won't be much of a student community. While I'm sure you will manage to meet a lot of people living in a city, you won't have the once in a lifetime experience of living in the dorms. Besides, you can always move to a city after you graduate from college, and live there for a couple years (much more comfortably, because you won't be a student).
