And What?

My friend has been asking me to go fishing with him for a few months, and I always think of an excuse so as not to go. The thing is, I really love fish. I know you shouldn't handle them as they have a protective layer of slime on them that is easily removed. And also the hook. I don't get it. How can they be hooked and handled yet still be okay? Does the hook actually hurt the fish?
If it didn't hurt the fish and the fish would survive then i reckon fishing would be okay. I'm just not sure whether its cruel or not. Could you please give me some information on whether its okay to go fishing or not. Thanks!

It isn't cruel..... No one likes to hurt things, but fish do get hurt and fish do die. If you are worried about things getting hurt or dying, I wouldn't worry about the fish so much as I would worry about the bait you are using.

Supposedly when you hook a fish it does not hurt them.

I would recommend just going and trying it out, if you don't like it then don't worry about it.

A lot of people who fish practice "catch and release" which is what I choose to do. I've heard of the slime coat not sure if by handling them if it permanently hurts them, I don't believe it does. Sometimes a fish will swallow the hook, sometimes it might go through their eye but 90% of the time the fish is ok when you take the hook out. Fishing is a fun relaxing activity and everyone should try it at some point. As long as you have respect for what you are catching and obey fishing laws then it will be fun. Take your friend up on it sometime!
