Is it cheating to vote for yourself for Best Answer?

I'm just wondering. I figure if the asker doesn't have the courtesy to pick a BA, and I can remember what I said, then I deserve BA. Or is that cheating?

I don't think it's cheating, and I'm sure it's done all the time. However, others might be wary of this, particuarly because the purpose of the best answer is to award the person with, well, the best answer. I think that if you truly think you gave the best answer, then sure, what's the problem? But if someone asked a question and you answered with something meaningless ("chicken butt"), then perhaps you'd better vote somebody else's answer instead.

Technically, no, and it really depends on the environment and election type as to whether or not it's socially acceptable. In a school election, generally it's a good gesture to vote for the opponent, you'll get respect for it. In a real election however, voting for yourself is generally expected.
