is it better to buy a flash drive or a portable hard rive to connect to my dvd player?

im buying a LG BD530 1080p Network Blu-ray Disc Player and the only reason why i want it is because i wana put movies from my laptop to either a flash drive or harddrive this dvd player has a usb thing that i can plug a flash drive so whats better to get and also pleae if u can name a brand or specific mode that will fit best with the dvd player thanks
