Is it better for the life of the batter on my ipod touch to use it while plugged in?

Basically, I tend to use my ipod touch while it's plugged in, and fully charged. Is that better than to unplug it once it's fully charged, and use it until the battery is dead? I don't want to replace the battery anytime soon, and I use it all the time.
