I know that running everyday is not recommendable and may be dangerous for your legs, but what about riding stationary bike everyday for 20 minutes, is it dangerous? any side effects?

it's not bad or unhealthy at all. but, if you haven't biked in awhile, don't immediately do 20 minutes a day. Start off 5 minutes a day for a week, then 10 a day the next week, then 15 and so on so you don't get a repetitive use injury.
No, that is about the minimum amount you want to do. I usually do 2 1/2 hour sessions every day and ride pretty hard. I like to watch one of my favorite 30 min programs and see how far I can get in that amount of time. You want to pedal at a high rate with just enough resistance to get your breathing to the point where you can still talk but not sing. If you are not breathing hard or sweating you are not getting much out of it.
