Is it bad to feed African cichlids fish flakes for goldfish?

I inherited some free goldfish flakes with a tank and I was wondering if it's bad to feed African cichlids with these flakes.
 
What type of african cichlid?

Goldfish flakes are obviously made for goldfish. They often have lots of veggie matter in them. ALot of african cichlids are vegans for the most part, but some arent.

Honestly, I wouldnt feed it to them more than a week. Id throw it out as soon as I made a trip to the store to buy them proper food.

The foods not made for them. Thats my only concern with it. Fish tanks arent cheap, so if you can afford a tank setup, you can spend another 5 bucks on food that will actually keep your fish healthy.
