Is it appropriate for a parent to discuss the dangers of auto-erotic

asphyxiation with their son...? This is a really tragic form of masturbation where young men, typically, use some sort of rope to temporarily cut off the circulation to their brain in an effort to enhance their orgasms. It's very easy to mess up with this dangerous activity and a number of famous celebrities have died engaging in this sort of thing.

Should parents discuss something as awkward as this, considering the potential risk that it poses? If so, at what age is the child ready to learn about this from a parent? How would one approach such a sensitive and awkward discussion, given the importance of children understanding how terribly dangerous this form of masturbation is?
