Is it animal abuse(fish)?

Ok I feel really stupid by asking this, But recently I bought A 10 gallon fish tank, i haven't gotten the fish yet, because I wanted to get everything ready first. But now I keep thinking that trapping all the little fishies in a fish tank is cruel. Shouldn't they be free with unlimited space to go where they want? Or having them in a fish tank doesn't harm them at all?
