Criminal Justice question: A call comes out late evening that there is a suspicious person walking down the street checking all car door handles. A police officer notices an individual who fits the description, and having reasonable suspicion, searches the individual's backpack and finds car accessories in the backpack. The individual freely admits to stealing the items and the property is returned to the owner.
Would this evidence be admissible in court if permission was not given, in this example? If the stolen property is returned to the owner, wouldn't it be admissible? A reasonable person would think that someone walking down the street checking all car door handles is a sign that a crime has or might occur, right?
