Is it alright to wear Sketchers fitness shoes to the gym?

I just joined a gym and needed shoes to wear for my workouts. I purchased Sketchers fitness shoes because they are bouncey and just because I liked the black and silver color, I don't believe you'll get a firm butt just from walking in them..BUT now I'm worried because some people said I'd fall on my head if I wear them to the gym. I'm not planning to run in them but will be doing toning and strengthening exercise and some cardio,
Does anyone else wear these to the gym?
