Is it against the law for someone to take my phone and use it without my permission?

Note: The teacher had taken my phone because I was in In School Suspension, so I was asked to empty my pocket. During the day he used my phone for whatever reason. I'm wondering if he is aloud to call someone or send a message to someone without my permission and for whatever reason.
