Is it against the law for a 35yr man to be hanging around high school kids, going

It is not against the law for you to socialize with minors but it certainly puts you in a very vulnerable position from a legal standpoint. If you are at parties with minors where alcohol is consumed then are in grave danger of being charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor if law enforcement shows up. You are also putting yourself in very dangerous legal territory if there are minor girls at these parties. Any sexual conduct or contact will get you classified as a sex offender after an unpleasant prison sentence.

From a social standpoint it is understandable that the parents of the minors in question will have serious concerns about a 35 year-old man socializing with their minor children. This can cause them to start looking for reasons to get the police involved in your life.

My advise is to stop socializing with minors as only bad things can happen as a result. Perhaps you should start thinking about why you feel the need to do so and at the very least ensure that the people you do socialize with are over the age of 18.
 
Hang out with people your own age, or if you are going as a spectator to a drag-racing event than bring your gf, wife, or "significant other" with you. Otherwise you look like a potential child molester or pervert. It's not normal for an ADULT to "party" with high school kids.
