Is it acceptable to write up an employee via email?

I'm a supervisor in a large company. I supervise 23 employees. I usually email each employee each time they make an error. I also email employees thanking them for a job well done so I do use email for the good and the bad. I document all my emails to employees on a spreadsheet (not a lengthy documentation but short and to the point with the subject and the date).

I also SAVE the emails as well in an electronic computer folder.

Are these emails pointing out errors considered a "write up" of an employee ?

Also, if its not, would it be acceptable to write up an email via email?

P.S. I also verbally talk to employees when there is something good as well as something bad so it's not only done via email. I also document the discussion on the same spreadsheet.

Any advise or suggestions?
