Is it a good idea to plan on getting pregnant when you yourself have health issues?

I am 23 years old and have been married for 2 years now. I have always wanted to have at least one baby, but now that I am older and married I'm not sure what I should do. I was diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy (a milder form of muscular dystrophy) 1 wk after my husband and I got married. I also have asthma and Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome on top of the Myotonic Dystrophy. My parents don't want me to have kids due to my health issues because basically everyday I am sick or have one issue or another. I went to a counselar to discuss getting pregnant and they said if I did want to have a baby the baby would have a 50/50 chance of inheriting the Myotonic Dystrophy and even if the chid did inherit the condition the child would follow the same course I did. The child would begin to develop symptoms when I did and he/she wouldn't be any worse than I am. I am currently on birth control so that I don't get pregnant, but I need another opinion. I really want to at least to try to have a baby of my own, but with my health issues is it a good idea. I have trouble taking care of my own self, my husband has to do everything and I know he's tired. Should I really add the stress of a baby on our shoulders?

i have spina bifida and hydrocephalus. my husband and i decided that we wanted to have a baby reguardless of all my health problems. the doctors told me that i should be able to carry a child but they couldnt tell me for sure. im now 16 weeks pregnant and even though i have my bad days i also have my good days. im starting to feel the baby move now all the time and i know it will be worth it all in the end. my baby has a 1 in 20 chance of having what i have but its a chance we decided to take. it really up to you and if you think that you can handle it. i wish you lots of luck and i know you will make the best choice for you.
