So I am buying my first car and I am looking at a 1998 Honda Accord EX V6 4dr Automatic Loaded. I have read online that these are NOTORIOUS for having transmission problems. I am starting college soon so obviously I wouldn't have the money to have the transmission rebuilt. So my question is, if I was to buy this car, would it be like shooting myself in the foot? Is it bound to happen? Or is it really by chance?
The car has 135K miles on it, and I know that Honda's can last well into 200k miles. I plan to take it to a mechanic to get it checked out, but are there any specific things I should ask regarding the transmission? If not, I have also been looking at older Honda's( '94, '97) and a '94 Nissan Maxima.
Side Note- The list price for the 1998 Accord is $4,400. Plan to talk him down.
