Is irony typically used in Victorian poetry?

I am writing a paper on Thomas Hardy and I need to know if irony is typically used by Victorian poets, but I can not find any actual source that explains whether it does or not. The source does need to be scholarly if possible, but like I said I have had no luck so far.
I appreciate the help.
Any other form of irony works as well, satire etc...
