I dont know what to do, I think my husband is using drugs. All the signs are there, he has massive mood swings and gets angry very easy. He yells at my kiRAB all the time now and when he used to play catch with them he now comes home eats and falls asleep, and God help you if you wake him up. I know the owner of his company uses cocaine, and has offered it to him. I also now he used to smoke pot a lot but my husband says he hasnt in a while and i dont believe that. Where do I go from here?

Hi, I wonder if you could give a little more info? I do have some experience with this with my husband as well.

First - have you asked him about his behaviour?
Do you know if he has used anything besides pot in the past?

Have you found any evidence of drug paraphernalia in the house, his car, pockets, drawers etc.? Have you looked?

How long has he been like this?

I know for me it's easy to tell when my husband has been using coke because he will stay up all night then the next day - he will either go to work where I suspect he uses more to get through the day OR if the next day is his day off he will just "crash" and sleep like the dead and yes - VERY difficult to wake up but also will wake for dinner then right back to sleep. Also nasty attitude.
Do you suspect he is using at work or does he go out? If he is using coke I feel for you and I understand all too well. It's a nightmare to live like that.

hi,

i as well am going thru the same thing with my husband, mood swings and a big change in his behaivior also the way his face changes when i suspect he's on it, of course he denies it but i dont believe him, if all the signs are there then that usually means your suspisions are right, i hope everything works out for the best to the both of you as well as myself

to the original pioster here? the one thing that seriously does need to be ruled out unless you have absoilute proof that he uis actually using would be he could be actually suffering from at lkeast some type of a real mood disorder which would kind of play outr with many oif the 'symptoms of behaviour" you have mentioned too? this stuff can manifest itselkf over time and also very much suddenly appear like out of seemingly nowhere too? the thing here is, if he DID or was actually using certai drugs or even ON any actual meRAB himself on a regular basis or a one time thing with illegal drugs, that alone has the ability to really 'trigger' certain more underlying mental health types of conditions that were kind of already there but needed that "push" or real trigger to actually show the symptoms too? ya know what i mean?

its just that mood swings(esp ANY high highs and the low lows and agressive behaviors too) in anyone can always be an underlying sign/symptom of certain disorders, with some along the relm of the more bi polar ones? my son has a bi polar disorder and what you have described here actually "fits" with the onset of his disorder almost to a T. bi polar also usually has a depression component to it too which could simply be the underlying reason for the sudden disinterest with his usually more important to 'him' things/family memebers too in his life?

just one other possibility that really dioes need at least some consideration given what he is displaying in behaviors. this could also be other types of possible mental health issues too, but DO please make an effort to really find out just what this truely is before passing full judgement on anyone or simply assuming thisj just IS automatic drug abuse,K? there just ARE alot of other possible things here that at the very least need to be fully evaluated by his doc or other specialists to truely know anything at this point.

simply asking him about his ongoing behaviors("are you feeling/doing okay" thats a good question to help break down a barrier and open a possible conversation too? then telling him what you have been seeing after that? 'you just have not seemed like yourself at all lately"? then that ball is simply IN his court) and seeing how he reacts is kind of a clue there too? but simply being defensive, esp if HE too is trying to figure out just why he is doing and feeling what he is, is not always a definitive sign that he is trying to actually 'be hiding' something, but moreso the way alot of men just are when it comes to this type of thing too even being a possible? they will kind of tend to deny there even IS a problem only to try and not have to change their very routined level of 'normal" in some cases? admitting to anyone, even ourselves that we just may have some type of very real underlying mental health issue just is NOT an easy thing to do, and worse for men in certain ways more than women?

just try and really take a step back and then proceed slowly into this and find out what you just honestly and truely 'feel" in your gut may be going on here? you simply KNOW your hubbys level of 'normal' better than anyone and can gage it pretty well in many different ways. but simply do this 'evaluation' part with a very open mind and not one where you are very convinced it even IS a drug issue right now, or your observations will already be somewhat 'tainted' and not really realistic, and that just IS what you need and how you need to approach this, with a completely totally unbiased as possible open mind?

just knowing what is even possible to happen in anyones brain with certain thingseven "possibles" like onsets of mental health issues that CAN also have some type of real predisposistion based upon what has been in a persons family possibly even wayy before he was even born? this just neeRAB to be looked at from BOTH potential angles til 'proven" otherwise? just so you know, my sons actual form of bipolar was actually created totally and completely FROM the use of prozac for treating what was ONLY milder depression along with suffering a level of PTSD from going thru liver failure and then a badly needed Tx(this part occured when he was only 12 then 13 the day he was Txed). it WAS that drug alone, that was actually started about one year after that transplant when he showed very real signs of both depression and PTSD, as we found out later that rewired his freaking brain while simply taking it as directed(and displaying sudden off the wall insane symptoms he did NOT have at all pre prozac?)? pretty sick what some drugs that are supposed to actually help us can DO TO us.

i do hope you can find out soon what the real underlying issues are here. if it IS drugs, then HE has some really big decisions to make for himself and his family too. if not, then he will need you more than he ever has before to just be there as he gets evaled and the right meRAB to help him if this actually is a form of possible mood disorder/bi polar issue goin on. either way, good luck with this and do please keep us all posted, Marcia
