I am currently in my junior year of a Bachelor of Health Sciences majoring in Physiology.
Unweighted GPA: 3.76/4.00
MCAT: 38R
I currently and for the past year have worked in a medical laboratory. I am responsible for analyzing tissue and blood samples related to acute lymphocytic leukemia with a team of other assistants, technicians, hematologists, and oncologists. This past summer I also went to Nepal (in the Himalayas) to be part of a research team exploring the long term effects of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction.
Since I was fifteen I have volunteered with individuals with psychological disorders (mainly personality disorders and substance abuse) and with some of the physiological side-effects, such as withdrawal. Often this involves psychosocial support for individuals and their families.
I am part of a competitive alpine snowboarding team (giant slalom) and have won gold three times. During the summers, since I was ten, I have been involved in epee fencing, where I have won gold many times.
In my upcoming senior year I will be involved in two of my own research projects. One dedicated to treatment of hypothermia-induced hypokalemia and the other to the effects of hyperoxia on skeletal muscle performance.
I have also been taking six courses a semester since my freshman year of university.
