i read somewhere that the 360 has ATIs new generation of graphics cards that aren't out on PC yet, i was wondering when graphics will be better on the PC again, as 360 seems king atm
No, and with dx10 on the way there is little chance it will be able to compete. However, the 360/ps3 both have great development teams which can not be said about the pc, simply because the pc is only providing good shooters and rts's, other than that there are very few games for the pc that I want other than crysis.
Games wise, there is plenty of reason to buy a console. Racing Sims, Shooters that don't come to PC, RPG's, Platformers, Espionage (Splinter Cell, which is for PC, but it sucks on PC).
The days of PC gaming are... they're not dying, but alot of stuff I want to play is now on console.
Better hardware? No. Better graphics? Yes (for right now). This is because a console is a definite standard therefore developers can design to this specification. On the PC, the gaming hardware 'standard' is very loose and not as good yet but will soon surpass the consoles.
So.... so what you're saying is PC's only have strategy. Which is pretty much what I said.
Shooters and Strategy. If you want anything else... you pretty much have to go to console. There ARE some for the PC, but they're generally also on the consoles and better on them because they were designed first for the console.
Multiplatform titles are almost always better on PC due to better hardware and various mod communities. The exception would be games that were original coded for lesser hardware on consoles and not optimized for PC (ex: Halo for PC, Rainbow 6 Vegas for PC). Online capability used to be exclusive to PC, but Microsoft has provided an excellent service with xbox live. The online experience is still better on PC due to the user community and games that support a greater number of players than consoles.
It's difficult to know what platform a development house originally developed for (unless it's just obvious like in the case of the most recent Rainbow 6). Chaos Theory actually came out on PC first and was later released on consoles. That doesn't mean it was originally developed for PC and consoles were an after thought. At the time Chaos Theory was released, the Splinter Cell series already enjoyed multi-platform success so it's likely that each version spent a near equal amount of time in development concurrently.
Another example: Halo was originally developed for PC, Bungie was bought by Microsoft, and Halo was obviously released on the xbox years later. When the PC port was finally released, it was horrible because it was so underoptimized to take advantage of PC Hardware and co-op was sorely missing.
Multiplatform games that come to mind that are better on PC:
-Splinter Cell series
-Max Payne 2
-NFS series
-any FPS or RTS game (Far Cry, Half Life 2, etc).
-any RPG (Oblivion, etc)
-generally everything else
I'm certainly not suggesting that consoles don't have their place. Consoles provide a variety of games that you can't get on PC without emulation and rom piracy. They're also great in the respect that you don't have to worry about compatibility - everything works. I own a wii and x360. But, I don't believe that multiplatform console games and hardware are generally better than PC. Just the opposite.
