Is happiness a personal disposition or is it based on circumstance?

Would the miserable people still be miserable as millionaires and would the happy people still be happy begging on the streets? How much importance does circumstance bear on a person's emotions?
Brad: I guess health, and to some extent diet, does contribute to happiness. Funny how we don't see any 'happy diets' only 'happy meals'!
Ms Minerva: I am very sorry to hear that and I sincerely hope you get better soon. This question was asked as a measure of the rationality of others. Our views don't seem to be shared by the populous.
 
I can tell you for a fact that I have always deliberately made an attempt to be a happy person. Recently ....not only have I had many financial difficulties, but have also developed a serious illness which not only frightens me, but results in a LOT of daily pain.

I can assure you that I have a much much more difficult time maintaining a happy disposition than I used to.

Worry, pain, loneliness, despair, poverty.....all are things that can pretty much wipe every speck of joy slap out of you.
But.....surely....you already knew that....as a thinking rational adult...didn't you?
 
If you look at the body and health, a lot of happiness depends on how well your body is functioning and your lifestyle and dietary choices.
After that your circumstances and experiences play a major role in your happiness. But not circumstances like you are suggesting. Circumstances like.. how you feel about others, what kind of people you have in your life, how much love is in your life

I can assure you that having millions of dollars and having enough to get by on... it has very little to do with true happiness.
 
none whats so ever, it is all you!!! if you are miserable you will always be that way, NOTHING would change, this is no big mystery--- People might think so, but look at all these lotto winners.. I rest my case.
