It has no filter or air pump and I don't mind the cleaning work.
Is gravel OK for an outdoor aquarium?

Technically a raised pond, so filtration and aeration are subjective to the volume of water and the number of fish, but substrate wise gravel is as good as anything and very much better than a lot of things
