Is Google Chrome Incognito the same as clearing the cache/history in Firefox?

I use Firefox and every time I close it, it clears the cache/history. Is the Chrome Incognito function the same thing just without it ever being stored to begin with? Doesn't it still stay on the hard drive anyway? I have a macbook, if it makes any difference between Windows and Mac.
 
No, it is different your can clear it on the main menu or you can click on a wrench in the top right hand corner and scroll down and click clear all browsing history.
