is golfing supposed to hurt when you swing?

Perhaps a couple of lessons are in order. Ones hands are not supposed to hurt when swinging a club or making contact with a golf ball.

Are you wearing a golf glove? If you aren't that's what is causing it. If you are and it still hurts,I suggest taking a wash towel and lightly cleaning the grip of your club with warm water and soap. This should make it nice and tacky and you shouldn't get blisters.

If it's not blistering or rubbing pain, then yes you are doing something wrong. If its a sudden pain at impact, like the sting from hitting a baseball, then you are hitting the ball with the bottom edge of the club. Do some practice swings and get use to skimming the grass. Try to replicate that swing and you will know when you make good contact b/c it will actually feel good on your hands.

Swinging a golf club shouldn't be painful or hurt. Should be just as smooth as swinging a baseball bat.

Wear a glove.
Make sure your gripping the club properly.
Ensure the head and grips are secure to reduce any vibrations on contact with the ball (or ground).
Have a relaxed, yet firm grip on the club. Don't strangle it.
If the problem is the grips, replace them with smaller or larger grips that are comfortable.
