Is going to university a waste of time?

People talk about 'chilling' and making lots of friends. The reality of it is to go there, improve as a person and then go out into the workplace with a skill set.

Today, there are limited jobs. Everyone has a degree nowadays. Looking at the apprentice hopefuls, some dont even have a degree and yet enjoy more than what those who have degrees enjoy.

According to gov stats (website on here), lots of graduates are coming out of uni with high debts and cannot secure a permanent job.

Hence the question, is it really worth going to university anymore?

I feel like I've spent my whole life in education. I have 1 complete degree and 2 x 2/3 of a degree (due to finish one of them next year, gave up on the other and transfered to current degree).

I am in a job that anyone, degree or not, could have got. The jobs out there call for experience. So often I think 'why did I bother?'. Some of my friends who never went to university are in better jobs now because they worked their way up straight after school. I think the only real way to do it is to get into a graduate program of some type where they fast track you. Just applying for any old job with a degree as your best skill doesn't present many options. Experience is the key.
