Is going back to college worth it?

I'm 15 credits short of graduating as a medical lab technician. Did my related internships, final project and presentation, just have a few classes from my 3rd and 2nd year that I didn't pass. The last time I even touched a book (around the time of my final project) was 2 years ago. I don't want to work in that field, which is part of why I dropped out (should have sooner, but didn't have the guts to because everyone keeps saying you need a college degree and finish what you start).

Now, after a few years of near manic depression and therapy, I'm 27 and ready to get back out there. However I lack a degree by a few points and have tried low level jobs but find that they're unchallenging and I'm tempted to fall back into the same cycle of depression and lethargy. Is it worth going back to college at my age, still not having a clear idea of what I want, just to get a degree, any degree, in order to continue trying to find it out? Or am I just too old and I should just look for alternative ways to get out of the slump. And if I do go back to college, is there any such thing as an "all purpose" degree that you can use when you STILL don't know what you'd like to do or do you really just have to pick something and hope for the best....
