Is God pleased that the churches have backed the bloodiest wars of the 20th century?

After all, Jesus said at John 13:35: "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves."

Isn't it a contradiction of the Christian faith to engage in wars with other countries who's own soldiers may be of the very same religion as you? As you know, it isn't hard to find pictures of priests and other religious figures blessing the troops during the WWI and WWII eras. Both in Nazi Germany and elsewhere.

Catholics fought Catholics and so-on and so-forth with the rest of Christianity's divisions. Taking the above scripture into consideration, would it appear that the modern day churches are really following Christ? Or are they rather deviating from the teachings of the leader they claim to follow?
