It depends on what you consider a sport. Some people may consider something a sport if it has something physically to do. Others will say it is a sport if it has mental aspects. Another group will say something is a sport if you win money through it(like MLG). So gaming can be considered a sport in some cases. Hope this helps.

Title says it all.
I'm a very serious gamer and I know about MLG and stuff. But is it really a sport? I got into a fight with another girl in my class about it. She kept telling me that gaming isn't a sport. But I think it is...
I know it doesn't really have much physical action but it sure challenges you mentally?
If it's not a sport then why do they have major league gamers??? It's like Baseball...Major league team or something....
It is?

I believe it is a sport but only to major gamers, the people who play at the top of tournaments. For us other gamers, whether we be casual or hardcore, I'd consider it a hobby or something. We don't play at a high enough level for us to call it a sport

Redthunder, have you even seen a video game tournament? The players aren't as obese as you think

Gaming is not a sport, well not for the body at least. Gaming is more for entertainment and for the mind. However if you spend your whole life playing video games youll end up a fat, unhealthy person that has trouble with even walking. Plus you might get addicted with the game

I agree with you, I think it's a sport. People might not want to accept it and I can see where they're coming from. I think that anything that requires genuine skill and practise is a sport.
You could look at it as a form of Entertainment like movies and T.V., which is easier to explain.

gaming is not a sport, it's a hobby. but if u play nintendo wii that is a sport because you have a lot of phisical movement.

I don't think so. Sports like rugby and football were always competitive games, video games are made for fun and should be kept that way. Think about it. If you were out on a date with a girl, could you honestly say to her "I sit on my couch and play video games for a living." You may as well try and turn monopoly into a professional sport or Scene It. They are a bit of light hearted fun and that's how they should always be.
