I recently took my 2006 eddie bauer explorer to get serviced at the ford dealership due to a airbag issue. The light came on solid no blinks. After a diagnostic a technician specified in his report that the steering column needs to be replaced. I understand that there are vital parts to the airbag such as the clockspring and such but those parts can easily be replaced without replacing an entire $900 steering column. Why does ford want me to replace an entire $900 steering column to fix my airbag issue? Is that really a valid situation or a simple lie to squeeze as much money out of me as possible? I have never heard of replacing a steering column to fix a airbag issue. A sensor? fine. A clockspring? very valid. But a $900 steering column? Im sorry i dont seem to be very understanding in that aspect. So is ford ripping me off? what does the steering column have to do with my airbag?
