Recent times, purpose of education is meant to earn a livelihood, to make the quality of life better, and to acquire social status. This is the attitude of the majority in the society. Please opine....

Education is its own reward. The exposure to ideas and the abiity to think make dealing with modern life easier. This makes for a higher quality of life. It is OK that everything does not have an explanation or that an explanation of this contradicts the explanation of that.

Any livelihood will be unrelated to a 20yr old education. The ability to deal with change and new knowledge comes with an education. There may be no direct relationship between learning of specific subjects and the performance of work tasks.

Education does not increase social status as much as the social connections made at school. Education outside that environment brings only marginal increases in social status.

The majority of society is wrong in that livelihood is directly related to education and education itself brings social status.
