My Sister has been suffering from (what we thought) severe Depression for the past 3 years or so. All of the Medications, Doctors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists and a few "Witch Doctors" haven't been able to cure her.
As a last resort - three weeks ago, she started a Course of Electro-convulsive Therapy (E.C.T.) conducted in a Psychiatric Hospital and there seems to be very little (or no) improvement.
Today I was told by the Director of Nursing at the Hospital: "E.C.T. has been cancelled temporarily", as the Doctor in charge of administering and evaluation of E.C.T. seems to think that my Sister is suffering from Dementia - not Depression as previously thought.
Please correct me if I'm wrong - but isn't Depression completely different from Dementia?
A Brain Scan will be performed next week to narrow down the possibilities of my Sister's condition - but shouldn't the Hospital have done this 3 weeks ago before they commenced E.C.T.?
Is not a human life more valuable than the life of an experimental Guinea Pig?
I think I'm beginning to understand why it's so difficult to sue Doctors for malpractice. They seem to take all care, but they accept no responsibility.
Oh, what has our world come to?
