Is Desperate Housewives a good TV show?

I've been planning to watch the series many years ago but I couldn't be bothered. I watched a couple of episodes and they were good and I know how the storyline goes.

I want to start from the beginning, but there are 7 seasons... Is it worth it? That's a hell lot of DVDs to buy.
