Is Depression Medicine something you can just buy at the store or not?

Seems like so much trouble just to get Depression Medicine, is it really not sold in the store? If so, then how do I get that? Do I have to tell my doctor I want it and he will let me get it or do I have to tell the doctor and the doctor will tell me to see someone else before I can get it?
