I have had depression. I have always been told to think positive, If I think positive than my depression will lift. I also hear comparisons to other illnesses in not having the ability to "snap out of it". Which is it? Part of me refuses to take medications because I don't believe masking a problem is the answer; like taking painkillers. But I am confused as to what depression is...I hear the phrase chemical imbalance used all the time, if that is the case can I assume that depression will be a life long thing I have to deal with? Yet, I hear that with time and the right treatment depression can go away. Do we really know depression is? Is the brain so complicated that everything is a guessing game? I want to really understand what I am dealing with. Thanks.
