...have a world cup for....? the most prestigious version of its sport...ie Test cricket?

what format can you suggest, that would allow the combined results of test series to determine which two teams contest a "5day world cup" series?

for all the tradition of ashes contests etc, i would like to see a competition constructed so that the two best form test teams go at it once every 4 years for a world cup.

i think it wholly inadequate that...the best Test cricket can manage is to have a "current number one ranked team" to dish out some vague wishy washy kudos for the team calculated! as being number 1.

tennis doesnt give its most prestigious trophy based on rankings nor does golf or rugby...they all win it in a dramatic contest.

i think unless test cricket gets itself a world contest to be its pinacle of achievement...it will fade away and die.

what do you think?

the
just to clarify...i'd like to see a 5 match series to determine who wins the trophy - with some means devised to be a tie breaker, in the event of the teams winning the same number of matches.
in fact you could actually restructure what is currently called test cricket into a two tier competition, one for minnows and one for the big boys, somewhat along the lines of the davis cup...ie:

8 teams contest series, the no.1 ranked test team playing no.8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
4 vs 5

the 4 winning teams contest two semi finals and then the final......
and the four 1st round/quarter final losing teams contest the minnows trophy to determine final rankings 5,6,7 and 8. [this contest could maybe include 4 more small fry like holland canada etc]
upshot : every team is playing for something....every series means something.

Nonsense, we are satisfied with it as it is. We have a WC for ODIs & T20, but does that make them any more prestigious than test cricket. No, it doesn't imo.

i don't think there ever would be a WC in test cricket. It would take too long. I mean look at the NZ/Ind 2nd test, it's going to be a draw, unless something happens. Can you imagine if this test was a TEst WC Final?
