Im 15 and i love to paint, but i dont have time to visit natural places and paint the views, and I'm not too creative when it comes to ideas. I like to paint whats in front of me.
So i paint paintings that exist, but change things in them, and they're not really famous ones, and I'm not using the paintings that i do for anything just practice. But im wondering can i submit them in competitions?

I think if you give credit to the original painting you have used than it's fine. That's what my art teacher told me a lot of times.

No, thats just words, i mean think of how many people have painted pics of fruit or women. there nothing that says you cant. Paint away princess, paint away

Yes it certainly is. You can look at a painting and get ideas from paintings but copying ANY part of them is considered plagiarism. Chances are, you'll never get in trouble from doing it, but some day down the road it could come back and kick you in the (you know where) if you ever went on to become known yourself. Someone could say "hey, I own or saw one of his/her works and it's copied from so and so" Big no non!

If you need to paint what's in front of you, why not go outside and paint or take some photos of your own or go to a copyright free photo sharing site like ArtMorgue.com and paint something from there?
