Is copper wire on roof dangerous in lightening storms?

My roof has been thoroughly cleaned and all moss removed (50 years accumulation!) and my builder is attaching copper earth wire around the top ridge to inhibit further growth. Will this be dangerous when there is lightening?

electricity always finds the quickest route to earth, copper is a brilliant conductor. I think its the best next to gold. As long as you aren't holding the earth when lightening strikes you should be safe. The copper pipes under your sink are earthed as well. i've used the water taps during a lightening storm and my lights were flickering after a strike hit the house.

In your situation I would have to say no. The anount of copper your builder is going to use is no more (prob less) then someone who lets say has a slate roofing with copper valleys. You should safe don't worry. I am wondering though is he just putting copper wire? Copper wire is not going to release enough of the by-products to inhibit moss growth so it is best to use a copper strip which can be slid under a course (or two) of roof tiles. It is also possible to purchase and install a product named "Copper Ridge" which is fixed directly to the roof ridge. The wire its self wont be enough, your just throwing away money. Sorry for the bad news, but i just believe in doing right by my costumers and whoever I try to help.

No, the worst that could happen is that lightning strikes your house causing the copper wire to fuse. It won't make it any more likely that your house will be hit by lightning.

It is no more dangerous than having a TV aerial on your roof.
