Is being on a high school sports team worth it?

I am a junior in high school right now, and I am considering trying out for my school's golf team. The problem is that I have only been playing golf for about a year, and I would imagine that the others who try out have more experience than me. I have only practiced with my dad, but never played a full course. And the tryouts are in less than two weeks, so I don't know that I would be able to improve enough. When I went to go put my name down today, I saw only about 10 people that signed up, and so if it stayed at that number, and I tried out, then I could possibly have a very real chance of making it. But I suppose that it couldn't hurt to try out.

I am wondering how much time being on a sports team takes up. I am enrolled in an AP class, along with my other challenging classes. So, being on the team would probably interfere with my homework time, and I don't want my grades to go down. I know other students make time for these kinds of things, but I don't know that I would be able to do it all, and I already do archery at my school. So, basically, my question is: Is being on a team in high school worth sacrificing study time? Hopefully my question is clear, and thanks to anyone who provides me with some possible advice :)
