Is Apple Cider Vinegar an effective cleanser for hair, in lieu of shampoo?

I need an all natural, household item type substitute for shampoo that won't remove hair dye, or a natural way to give my hair purpley dark highlights. baking soda seems to remove the color. any ideas?
