Is any activity recorded when using Google chrome's incognito or firefox's private browsing?

It it true that even after deleting web history, your browsing and internet history can still be recovered, quite easily i am told.

What about when one uses google chrome's incognito mode? Is anything recorded, in the registry or elsewhere?
oh and please provide how you know. Thanx :)
