I've heard that synthetic oil is better then basic oil in winter driving... so I went to get an oil change today and asked for the synthetic... to my surprise the mechanic said that synthetic oil can actually do worse then good. (I drive a '09 4.7 Dodge Dakota) He said something about Chrystlers and condensation building up, and how he knows because he used to work for Chrystler...he talked so fast I didn't catch it all. He even said "I shouldn't be telling you this, I should be trying to sell you the more expensive oil but I rather be honest with my customers" he also said that synthetic oil is better to be done in the summer.
I don't do a lot of driving on the highway, just around town, if that makes any difference...
Can anyone please explain to me what he's talking about? Is it a Chrystler thing? What is it? I would like to keep this truck running forever and want only the best for it. Does oil really make a huge difference?
Thanks!
