Just curious. I've recently started reading more poetry...and well, they don't rhyme. They are beautiful and don't need to. The words are used aesthetically and are beautiful. But because I was raised from a child (in America) that most poems rhyme I find it hard to read most poems...because they don't. I keep trying to read them in some sing-songy voice that ill befits them. I'm just curious if this is a fault of the american education system or if it's more widespread. I wish rhyming poetry was not drilled into my head since primary school...I'd much prefer reading ee cummings without trying to fit everything into a verse.
