I'm looking for a car, as in the fall I'll be going off to college. I have some time, obviously, to choose.
My original "dream car" was a Ford Escape...right up until most of my friends started getting them. Call me shallow, but I want something different, even if it's only *slightly* different. I also had my eye on a Subaru Forester, but they're few and far between used, and cost nearly as much used (sometimes more) than they would new!
So, I've settled on a Mariner--not a bad decision, as here they sell used for about the same price as Escapes sell used. I'm looking at a price range of around $10,000-$11,000 and have actually found some that seem pretty decent--two that seem pretty nice and have about 60k worth of mileage on them, as expected.
My question is: is this a good all-around basic car? We get a fair amount of icy roads here, but nothing major. I'd like this car to last me at least 4 years, maybe closer to around 6 or so...would this be a good car that could rack up that mileage? My brother's Explorer has about 110k worth of miles and still runs fine...can this car do that, or will it kick out sooner?
Thanks for any info.
