I got the idea from the details of lap band surgery, where for reasons due to the surgery the doctor prescribes a 2-week pre-op and 3-week post-op liquid diet, usually a prescription protein drink called Optifast. I know that normally, lengthy liquid protein diets are not recommended, but this one must be safe or it wouldn't be part of the surgery (which I could get but would rather not). And I know I can stick to it. But is it a good and lasting method? Will I just regain the weight when I go back to a healthy, small portion diet, which I am on but which is not working? I know that if I lost a lot of weight, say 30 lbs or more, my motivation would improve; I suffer from depression, and feel stuck and hopeless. I believe if I lost around 30 lbs I would have new motivation at my better-looking figure to exercise and stick to eating healthy.
