Is a combination lock or a keyed bike lock better?

My older bike was stolen a month ago. I had a combination cable lock. Someone showed me how the person probably opened the lock -- by pulling at the lock and seeing if there was space between each of the 4 numbers.

For my new bike I purchased a new cable lock, and when I pull it hard, I see no spaces between the numbers. Does this mean it's safe? Or is a keyed lock better?

I thought about also purchasing a new U-lock, but I've read that they are quite heavy. Do they make light ones? I'm wondering if maybe I should use two locks -- a cable lock and u-lock.

Suggestions?
Thanks!
