Is a CBR 600rr a good first bike?

I've become a big fan of honda and was wondering if the CBR 600 is a good choice for a first bike. I enjoy speed but have the utmost respect for other drivers and my safety, so i wouldn't be one of those guys weaving in and out of traffic. I just want something that has the speed i want and a bike that will be fun to drive for hours at a time. I'd like to hear what experienced riders have to say, but so far the CBR600 has sparked my interest.
 
a 600cc bike is a quite heavy motorcycle for a first bike. Start out with something smaller, like a 250cc or even a 450cc.
